SING...SING A SONG...SING OUT LOUD...SING REALLY LOUD

I’m no fan of reality shows. I don’t watch American Idol. Occasionally I catch a glimpse of the failed attempts at Idol auditions and I wince. Do they really think they sing well? Didn’t anyone tell them? Heck, I could be one of them.

I don't sing in the shower; even after more than 30 years, Mark does NOT want to hear that sound at oh-dark-thirty plus the puppy would howl and the hens would crow. I DO, however, sing in the car. I usually have the decency to keep my car windows up…usually.... I know I’m not the only one out there. You’ve looked at the guy in the car next to you beating out the rhythm of Bohemian Rhapsody on the steering wheel and you laugh because you had your radio on the same station and were head-bangin'. I get my ring tappin on the shifter and I sing. And I sing LOUD! And if I actually know the words, it’s even louder! Matchbox20. Billy Joel. Tony Bennett....hell, I don't care, I just love to sing.

How about you? Are you a highway diva? It’s worse when I bop across campus with my iPod on….sometimes I forget and start singing then wonder why people are smiling at me. Could be they’re LAUGHING more than smiling but hey, pataytoe patahtoe.

Heck yeah! Of course, I learned from the best. I've been keeping a pretty awesome list of songs best sung in the car, by myself, and usually on the drive from Ferndale-to-Arcata/back. Anything by the Foo Fighters, some System of a Down, the new Foxboro Hot Tubs (Green Day side project)... nevermind the list of "cleaning CDs," including Carole King's Tapestry, Fleetwood Mac Rumours, Oasis (What's The Story) Morning Glory... the list goes on.
I love singing at the top of my lungs... but not usually when there's anyone around. Unless I have a couple of beers in me and it's karaoke night, but that's for another blog...

I used to do sing in the car but now my kids sneer so much that I just have to do it in my head. But some day (when I'm really old) I'll sing again in the car. "I can't get not Satisfaction."

What was it that Rosie O'Donnell said, Mom? "If you can't sing well, sing loud"? SOmething like that. Not to say that anyone doesn't sing well (not what I'm saying at all, actually... but more making the point to just go for it! Heck with the bystanders (and kids in the backseat). heehee

How charming, and somewhat surprising, that Heraldo is a fan of the Carpenters. Nice call.
